Maclean and Hardin win Boyne Highlands Classic

David Maclean took his second victory of the weekend by winning the Boyne Highlands 10km Classic over Milan Baic and Hugh Pritchard. Tracy Hardin won her second race of the Michigan Cup season in convincing fashion, easily distancing her rivals Wendy Anderson and Gussie Peterson.

Maclean finished the 10K in 35:48. Baic finished in 36:27, with Pritchard another 35 seconds back.

Hardin (43:43) put 2:44 over Wendy Anderson (46:26) at the finish. Peterson came in with a time of 50:24 - her second 3rd place finish this weekend.

Randy Bladel leads Denny Paull around the corner and up the first real hill of the race. 

In the 5Km junior race, Soo Finnish skier Wendy Mihell (24:54) had the fastest girl's time in the 13 & under category and overall. Maria Frick won the J1 division. In J2, Emily Westerman won.

Mac Brennan was fastest junior racer of the day (20:42), winning J2's. Ohio's Lloyde Anderson won the J1 division.

Conditions were better than predicted the previous day: It was warm, but it was not raining. Mid-30F temperatures overnight and cloudy skies brought out the klister skis. Trail conditions were soft. Heavy, damp snow in the downhills corners took down many a skier during the race. Toko Orange with Silver mixed in proved to be an excellent klister choice.

After the race, Boyne Highlands held an excellent baked potato bar lunch for skiers during the awards ceremony in the Heather Highlands Conference Center.
