HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech Nordic ski teams returned to action as it took part in the UP Collegiate Challenge Meet Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 8-9). Saturday’s race featured a women’s 6K freestyle race and a men’s 12K freestyle race in Marquette. Sunday’s race in Houghton featured a women’s 10K classical race and a men’s 15K classical race.
Sophomore Jenna Klein led the Tech women’s squad as she finished tied for fourth in the in the 6K classical and fourth in the 10K classical in 35:30. Junior Laura Kangas also had a strong performance as she posted a 10th place finish in the 10K classical (37:55) after finishing 11th in the 6K freestyle (19:49).
Senior Adam Airoldi led the men’s squad as he posted a pair of top ten finishes. The Everson, Wash., native finished ninth place in the 12K freestyle (31:47) and followed up with a seventh place finish in the 15K classical (48:10). Senior Kevin Heglund finished 11th in the 12K freestyle (32:03) and 13th in the 15K classical (50:21).
“I was very pleased with the way that Jenna and Adam skied today. Laura also skied a great race. I was happy the way that our men’s team preformed in general. We had seven guys within 30 seconds of each other. On a tough course it was great to see so many of them together,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller.
There were no team scores kept at either meet which also featured Northern Michigan and Wis. Green Bay.

The Huskies will return to action next weekend (Dec. 16-16) when it hosts the MTU Christmas Classic.
