
MARQUETTE, Mich. – There was enough snow in Marquette today to go ahead with the Wildcat Open.
Northern Michigan University took five of the top 10 places in the men’s race.
Phill Violett was the first Wildcat to skate across the finish line with a time of 30:58 which was second overall. Bill Bowler had a time of 31:14 which was good for fourth. In fifth place was Kevin Cutts with a clocking of 31:23. About nine seconds later was teammate Justin Singleton with a time of 31:32 for sixth. The fifth ‘Cat in the top 10 was Tim Cook in eighth (31:40). Anders Gillis was the final ‘Cat across the finish line in 21st (33:47).
The Northern Michigan women’s skiers took the top two places on Saturday at the Wildcat Open. Morgan Smyth won the event with a time of 17:28, just four seconds ahead of teammate Maria Stuber (17:32).
Maria Grossi placed eighth for the ‘Cats with a 19:04. NMU won the team title with 22 points, UW-Green Bay was second (13) and Michigan Tech third (10).

Next weekend, Dec. 15-16 the team will be in Houghton, Mich. for a pre-U.S. National event.
