BEITOSTOLEN, Norway (Nov. 24) - Kris Freeman (Andover, NH) was 50th and Lars Flora (Anchorage, AK) 77th Saturday in a 15K freestyle technique World Cup race won by Germany's Axel Teichmann. Norway's Marit Bjorgen won the women's 10K; no U.S. women raced.
They were the first distance races of the 2008 season, which opened Oct. 27-28 with sprints along the Rhine River in Dusseldorf, Germany.
"We're not happy today by any means, but now we know exactly where we are and we can keep moving forward," Head Coach Pete Vordenberg said. "We'll be better next week in Kuusamo [Finland, Dec. 1-2] and better again in Davos [Switzerland, Dec. 8-9]."
After relays Sunday in Beitostolen, the World Cup shifts to Kuusamo, above the Arctic Circle in northern Finland, for sprints and classic technique races, another men's 15K and another women's 10K.
