S as in Sprint ranking
At the Tour de Ski, there will be - in addition to the overall time score - a Bonus Seconds system. The FIS Tour de Ski Sprint Ranking will be calculated on the basis of these Bonus Seconds, as last year. The winner of the FIS Tour de Ski Sprint Ranking will be the athlete (male & female) who has collected the most Bonus Seconds by the end of the FIS Tour de Ski.
The Sprint Bonus Seconds for the Overall FIS Tour de Ski Ranking will be calculated as listed below. Bonus Seconds are subtracted from the competitor's actual racing time before being added into the overall time score. For this season, the Bonus Seconds were increased from 50 seconds for the first place to 60 seconds.
1st place = 60 seconds 5th place = 44 seconds
2nd place = 56 seconds and so on until
3rd place = 52 seconds 30th place = 1 second
4th place = 48 seconds
There will also be more Bonus Seconds awarded at intermediate points in distance competitions during the FIS Tour de Ski. These intermediate bonus points were introduced in the first edition and helped increase excitement. The Bonus Seconds will amount to 15, 10 and 5 seconds for the first three athletes at a designated intermediate point. The top three of the Stage will also get Bonus Seconds (15, 10 and 5 seconds) in distance races. Please see for an overview of bonus seconds below:
