Nat. Coaches Conf. Lake Placid Camp. 2 Questions.
Before the Lake Placid Camp the USST staff drove to Colorado Springs for the National Coaches Conference. The Conference was a huge thumbs up all-around. Thanks to Matt Whitcomb for putting it together, to all the great presenters and to those in who made the trip. See http://www.fasterskier.com/news4541.html for more info on that conference.
Lake Placid:
Day one. 3 x 8 minutes in the morning. Strength in the afternoon. Simple.
Laura Valaas - level 5 speed work. Whitcomb trying to hold on.
AM: day two. 15 x speeds (10 x over-speed, 5 x starts). 2hrs. Here: Torin Koos. PM: distance run, 1:50.
Sun Valley Ski Ed. Foundation's Colin Rodgers guns it out of the start. We were joined by a group of skiers from SVSEF for this workout. It was a great workout for all.
Head-to-Head.
Newell off the start.
Here are some thoughts from a few questions I've gotten reciently:
Question 1. We only have X amount of time to train?
Thought: maximize that time by focusing on 1 to 2 things every workout and making sure you accomplish those things within the time you have. Waste no time. If it is rest, rest well, eat a lot and drink lots of fluids. If it is train, train well at the right pace, focused on a few things you can accomplish in the time you have. That is the only way, no matter how much time you have.
Question 2. How high are the elbows in double poling and V2 skiing?
The elbows are not sticking straight out to the side (like an H shape) but nor are they right next to the body. Check out these pictures and others on the site (such as the one of Koos above) for examples:
Keep checking in - we've got a lot of camp left and the season is coming up fast!
