18th La Sgambeda to open FIS Marathon Cup

Livigno (Italy) 27th September 2007 - On December 16, 2007 La Sgambeda will celebrate its 18th birthday by offerering several side events, open to all cross country skiers.

The Swiss agency Sandoz Concept will run the 4th "Snow Sport Opening". The program offers training workshops (a week or a long weekend) designed both for beginners and more advanced skiers, which will start 4 weeks before the race. Sandoz's philosophy focuses on learning the technique, by having fun. In addition to the normal training sessions, there will be video analysis sessions, in which to learn how to improve. Cross country sport is not necessary always a "physically demanding sport", as Daniel Sandoz likes to repeat. For more information, click on his homepage: www.sandozconcept.com.

The race: This marathon course will count as the opening race valid for the FIS Marathon Cup 2007/08, the cross country skiing long distance World Cup. Competitors in the marathon will race two laps around the 21 km loop used last year. A shorter, 22.5 km distance race will also be offered. A price of 21,000 Euro will be divided among the first 6 (men and women). In addition to this, two additional prices will be given: the Trofeo Paolo Donadoni (for the masters), and the Trofeo Enzo Savio (Over 50).

Registration is open: the fee is 40 Euro before 30 October, up to 55 Euro until 13rd December (the deadline for registrations).

Last but not least, the Minisgambeda: this kids' race will be held on Saturday 15 December, at 1:30pm. Last year 182 kids participated, divided into five different categories: Baby (1998/99) 1 km course, Cuccioli (1996/97) 3 km, Ragazzi (1994/95) 3 km, Allievi (1992/93) 5 km and Aspiranti (1991/90/89 before age 18) 5 km.

Special packages are designed for those who would like to combine their participation to La Sgambeda with a short holiday in Livigno. One example: from 14th until 16th December the price for 3 days/2 nights in a bed&breakfast, including the Sgambeda registration fee and a ticket for the Bagni di Bormio Spa, will start from 139 Euro pro person. Many other special offers will be available, for a whole week in apartments.
