Superiorland Cross Country Ski Club, a local non-profit organization with goals of promoting cross country skiing, and other healthy silent sports among all local residents, and promoting a healthy life-style for all, along with Northern Star Pathology, PC, is sponsoring the Finnish Line running race, on Monday, Labor Day, September 3, at 10:00 A.M.
This race was first run in 2005 as part of the Grand FinnFest, hosted by the Marquette community. It was a successful race and the course drew rave reviews. The 5 and 10 kilometer mostly flat races will start and finish at Matson Park. It will run along the Lake Superior shore through Founder’s Landing, then along Lake Street. The 5K runners will turn around half way along Lake Street. The 10K runners will continue on Lake Street, cross under US 41 and run along the Carp River on the Cliff’s Power Road, a flat and fast dirt road and turn around at the end of this road, returning on the same course. There will be an aid station at the 5K turn-around location.
The 5k race is easily wheel chair accessible.
There are 5 year age group awards for each race. The entry fee is $15 prior until Sept. 2, and $20 on race day. We are offering a “family price of $40 for 3 or more family members (all in same household) prior to race day, which will go to $50 on day of race. Proceeds from the race help fund the clubs youth ski programs.
