Hello TART friends-
It's finally here! Next week is Smart Commute Week! For more information about free breakfasts and all other events happening during Smart Commute Week, please visit our website at www.traverstrails.org/smartcommute
Very exciting news... over 40 Traverse City businesses are preparing for next week's Commuter Cup Challenge- the business side of Smart Commute Week.
he Commuter Cup Challenge is a friendly workplace competition that encourages co-workers to travel smart.
Commuter Cup team participants will be able to feel smart even before getting to work if they 'smart commute' all week. The goal of the Commuter Cup Challenge is to increase participation and spread smart commuting fever with good old-fashion peer pressure. The team captain encourages, sometimes even bribes, their co-workers to partake in the challenge. Many teams have friendly bets among other teams, so there may be more on the line than just pride. For example, the Michigan Land Use Institute bet the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (Team Land) that they would have a higher smart commuting average for the week. The loser of their bet has to supply food, beers & BBQ. It's just another way to encourage folks to consider smart commuting while adding a little more excitement to the challenge!
Commuter Cup teams are broken into 4 size categories, so businesses compete against similarly sized groups. For example, Brick Wheels will be pitted against City Bike Shop, Cuppa Joe and the Northern Express to name a few.
Expect to see more bikers, walkers and BATA riders out and about next week.
Give smart commuting a try.
Smart Commute Week, a TART Trails program, serves to promote, encourage and showcase alternative transportation options in Traverse City. "Smart commuting" includes walking, biking, taking the bus, carpooling or any other type of commute other than driving alone. Enjoy the weekend...and I hope to see you smart commuting next week!
