Hanson Hills / Cross Country Ski Shop skiers lead the Michigan Cup as of February 16th's Meijer State Games Hanson Hills Classic. HH/CCSS's Rebecca Davis and Jorden Wakely have a perfect 1,000 score with five wins each.
Davis is a machine, having raced all but one Michigan Cup race so far this season. Erica O'Hearn (Vasa) is not far behind, with three wins - including one over Davis - for 994 points. Mandy Paull (HH/CCSS) is third with 988 points and two wins. It's close, and depending who wins the remaining events, the order could change.
Directly behind Wakely is Ed Roe (Vasa) with three wins and four second place finishes for a total of 998 points. Andrew Moore (HH/CCSS) is just 7 points behind with 991 points.
It's too early to give good predications for the Junior men and women as no junior racers has completed five races. Currently, Shirel Temkin (Cross Country Ski Headquarters) and Traverse O'Hearn (Vasa) lead with 785 and 759 points. For the women, Ava Zeratsky (Vasa) and Avery Newmister (Team NordicSkiRacer) are second and third with 600 and 576 points. Temkin has one win, but Zerstsky has won all three events in which she has raced. If she gets two more wins, she'd be the shoo-in for the overall Michigan Cup.
For the guys, there's a similar situation. O'Hearn has one win. Jack Mazurek (Vasa) and Graylon Finn are second and third with 744 and 719 points. Neither has a win. But down in 7th place is Olin Kasperowic with three wins - one for every event he entered. Will he race two more races this season and move up to first place?
