Fast snow marked the Marv Stevenson Memorial Classic race at Forbush Corner on Sunday, February 4. It was a little shorter than yesterday's White Pine Stampede (only 9km), and only 500 feet of climbing. Conditions were very good. Michael Schaefer noted, "Absolutely beautiful skiing with Klister conditions, icy tracks, so fast!"
Skiers either doublepoled the entire course on skate skis, used klister, or used skin skis. Tracks were hard and many skiers on skin-skis had to get out of the track to climb some of the hills. A couple skiers took a wrong turn and lost a little time.
In the 9km race, Hanson Hills / Cross Country Ski Shop's Rebecca Davis took the win in 33:01. Teammate Mary Schlimmer-Willough was second in 33:45, followed by Team NordicSkiRacer's Ellen Thompson in 34:58. Ryan Harris took the win for the men in 25:31, beating Hanson Hills / Cross Country Ski Shop teammates Jorden Wakeley (25:10) and Michael Davis (25:41).
In the 5km junior race, it was all Vasa Raptors: Olin Kasperowicz won the men's race in 13:21, just ahead of Liam Wierzba in 13:26. Robert Myler was third in 14:44. For the women, Annie Paulson just beat Ella DeBruyn to the line, 14:27 to 14:29. Emilia Garces took third in 16:05.
