The weather gods relented and smiled upon us this otherwise dismal winter of 2024. Finally a bout of cold weather and bountiful snowfall and Crystal Mountain's Nordic ski trails presented a winter wonderland to the 49 bold Juniors participating In Crystal Community Ski Club's Flying Squirrel Freestyle.

First off were the Middle School racers skiing a spectator-friendly 3.5k course. A mix of flats, rolling hills & twists and turns kept things interesting while allowing all ability levels to compete.

Middle School Podium

1st Avery Kelly CCSC, 2nd Gwneth Schulck Vasa, 3rd Maggie McClellan CCSC

The Boys Middle School Podium was swept by the Vasa Ski Club: 1st Body Dykstra, 2nd Finn Frost-Grayon, 3rd Franklin Andrews

The High School race followed on a separate 5.5k course. A flat to rolling first 1.2 miles allowed for skiers to establish position before they hit the hills. The fun then begins with a 225' ascent up Aspen Climb.

From there the hills and turns don't let up until the final long downhill into the finish. Views expressed by the racers afterwards all seemed to agree 'Fun, loved it/hated it'.
