The Algoma Highlands Conservancy (a public, not-for-profit organization) recently purchased the land required to re-open the Hakon Lien Trail at Stokely Creek Lodge. If you skied at Stokely last winter you were no doubt disappointed that the Hakon Lien trail was no longer open. The Hakon Lien circles around King Mt and provides a remote ski experience with huge elevation changes unlike anything else in our area.
AHC purchased the 332 acres of land from the Ebare family on the east side of King Mountain. This tract of land provides:
As the SooToday news article "Group's $300K purchase guarantees protection of King Mountain" states,
Having already owned the western portion of King Mountain since 2009, the conservancy’s $300,000 purchase of the eastern side will guarantee the protection of nearly the entire mountain and will extend the group's landholdings to just over 3,300 acres.
