RESULTS: Jorden Wakeley and Jordyn Ross win Larry Kanaby Memorial Classic

The fourth Michigan Cup race went off without a hitch! The Larry Kanaby Memorial Classic race at Forbush Corner took advantage of both man-made and natural snow. Seniors skied 12km, juniors went 8km. And Jim Proyer took lots of photos of the event (download for free)!

Ann Wagar provides some background on the race: "Fellow XCHQ teammates and other Michigan Cup skiers celebrated the life of Larry Kanaby this past Sunday February 5th at the Memorial Classic ski race held at Forbush Corner Nordic, in Frederic, MI. Larry lost his battle with cancer on December 10th, 2021. Larry was a long-time racer on the Michigan Cup circuit and a member of the XCHQ ski team. Larry is best remembered for his smile and infectious happy attitude. Tricia, his wife, attended the race and sprinkled some of Larry’s ashes on the finish line."

Ann continues... "A total of $1,365 was raised through race fees and donations to be given in memory of Larry to the Ubly and Bad Axe cross country running teams. Larry was an avid runner and skier who will be missed greatly. Thank you to everyone who helped support this memorial donation!"

The Cross Country Ski Shop's Jorden Wakeley won the men's event in 40:00.7, leaving Denny Paull (43:39) and Mike Davis (43:54.9) to fight over second and third. Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team's Jordyn Ross won the women's division handily in 47:42.7, ahead of Rebecca Davis (49:08.5) and Mandy Paull (53:10.1)

In the junior race, Annie Paulson  won in 22:20.8, with Arianne Olson (22:22.1) and Ella DeBruyn (24:09.7) taking second and third. The junior men had the closest race. Ryan Donnell  won in 21:00.4 with Carter DeBruyn not too far behind in second in 21:26.7. Nick Thuente finished off the podium in 21:45.7.
