X-Cold Powder - One of our best waxes ever! Many people think that if the snow is especially cold or abrasive then this is when they should use X-Cold Powder. While this might work much of the time, I wanted to make clear when X-Cold Powder is the most effective.
High Performance Blue hot wax is an excellent cold snow wax that has a wide range. However, when the snow is cold and slow, adding X-Cold powder to the HP Blue is very beneficial. X-Cold powder greatly improves a ski's breakaway speed (at what point the skis start to accelerate). In fast snow the skis accelerate very early, pretty much when you step on them. But in cold slow snow, the skis don't accelerate well until they are at a pretty high rate of speed. This means that at slow speeds such as what you might find in a slalom event, the can skis feel really draggy...because they are!
X-Cold powder greatly improves this exact thing to the point where the skis feel very slippery coming out of a gate. This can make a massive difference over a race and for the enjoyment factor. This is what X-Cold does very well specifically.
So, if the conditions are super cold but still quite fast, don't add it. If conditions are cold and SLOW, mix X-Cold Powder in with your Blue 1:1. One important thing to note is to drip your blue on and then shake the X-Cold Powder on and then heat them in together. If you heat the Blue in and then add the X-Cold, it will stay on top and not make any difference (it won't go into the base).
In especially slow cold conditions, X-Cold Powder can also be used alone. Just shake it on and heat it in just like any other hot wax.
