Raising $4k for cancer research...and riding 100 miles for the very first time!

Fellow NordicSkiRacer Teammates and friends on the Michigan Cup,

I am seeking your support to help raise a minimum of $4,000 for cancer research via Pelotonia 2021. It has been quite a while since participating in a fund raising event of this nature. I am choosing to participate this year for a couple of reasons. First, cancer research is something that I have personally contributed to on an annual basis and I learned that with this event, 100% of the funds raised goes to cancer research because the main sponsors cover all of the administration costs of the event.

Second, my new employer, Huntington Bank, as of 6/9/2021, is a major sponsor of this event and I thought it would be a great way to meet new colleagues (100 riders from Huntington’s SE Michigan alone) and to demonstrate my support for this very important cause. Historically, there are about 7,000 participants from around the country at this major fundraiser. (Since 2009, Huntington Bank and its employees have raised over $30 million.)

Third, this will be the first time for me to ride 100 miles in one day. I have completed many 63 (metric century) mile rides but never 100. Mari Anne has agreed to make the trek with me to Columbus, OH where the event starts and where Huntington's HQ is. The event is on 8/7/2021.

I am confident that each of you have family and/or friends that have survived or died from cancer. In my case, my first wife Susan and my sister-in-law Kathy and Mari Anne's Mom Elisabeth died from cancer and my mother (Joyce) and brother John (5-year) are cancer survivors. I will be thinking of them and all of my other family/friends that have dealt with the devastating effects of cancer during the ride. Please join me by making a donation today.
