The Michigan State Health Department has extended the 25-person limit to outdoor gatherings to March 29th. This means that the Black Mountain Classic and Black Mountain Freestyle races scheduled for March 6 an 7, 2021 will not be able to receive a DNR permit for the events. This means we have to cancel both races.
This is a disappointment for sure as snow conditions at the Mountain are excellent and the two race courses have been improved and prepared all fall and winter.
When we asked the DNR if we could use wave or other start scenarios to separate races, the DNR relayed to us the following: "The extended limited of 25 individuals for outdoor events is a hard cap and does not allow rotating or staggering people throughout the day." We are presented lots of safe options but the DNR Park Director's hands are tied.
The trails are in great shape, so please come out and ski them! We'll see you next year for the Black Mountain Classic and Black Mountain Freestyle. The "Beast" awaits you!
