The MWC 2020 is officially cancelled.
American Cross Country Skiers announced that the Masters World Cross Country Ski Championships 2020 event in Cogne, Italy is cancelled over concerns related to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The cancellation comes shortly after the cancellation announcement for the Engadin Ski Marathon (https://www.engadin-skimarathon.ch/en/news-services/corona-virus). This significant development put even more pressure on race officials and Italian authorities with regards to a decision about whether to proceed with the MWC2020.
There have been travel advisories: the Center for Disease Control had increased the travel advisory for Italy to a "Level 2" out of 3. Mostly involved a recommendation for older adults and those with chronic medical conditions to consider postponing nonessential travel.
Some Michigan skiers had already cancelled their plans to attend MWC 2020 because of the health threat.
