Frederic, Michigan - Forbush Corner Nordic cross-country ski center will be substantially extending their ski season starting in Fall 2019 due to a major financial gift from long time friend and skier, Frank Nizio. Nizio's generous gift will fund the installation of a state-of-the-art snow-making system which will initially encompass a 2.5-kilometer trail. Construction is scheduled to begin in April with completion targeted for August of 2019. Midland, Michigan based Snow Machines, Inc. (SMI) is responsible for the design and engineering of their patented Axis Snowtowertm technology. The system will feature a well, feeding a two million-gallon cooling pond, a pumping station supplying 400 GPM of water, and 1280 CFM of compressed air to the Axis Snowtowerstm.
When completed, Forbush Corner Nordic Ski Center, known for its extensive trail system for beginners to advance skiers, will host the largest privately-owned Nordic snow·making system in the Midwest. SMI, chosen for its extensive experience, has provided snow·making systems for the last six Winter Olympics.
Established in 1984, Forbush Corner is a cooperative where everyone serves as a volunteer. No one is paid a salary. All profits are reinvested to maintain and improve the cross-country skiing complex; ultimately leading to enhanced user experiences.
The organization is currently raising $150,000 in private donations to extend snow·making through Forbush's "Valley" trai1 areas and to insta11 trai1 1ighting to accommodate night skiing. Donors that contribute $1,500+ will be recognized as Trail Blazers on Forbush's trail sponsor board, on their website and in all promotional materials. Donors of $500+ will be recognized as Trail Supporters on Forbush's website. While special designations have been created to recognize major donors, donations in any amount will help the organization to reach its goal.
