Kirt and Brumbaugh win age groups at Yellowstone 5k

Two Michigan Cup skiers won their age groups at the West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation (WYSEF) / National Nordic Foundation 5km Master Ski Race at the Yellowstone Ski Festival on Saturday, November 14, 2018. Vasa Ski Club's Karen Kirt won first place in the 50-59 years old division, and Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team's Ernie Brumbaugh was first in the 70-74 age group. Ernie was also the the oldest racer at 72 years old.

The 5K freestyle race was held at 6700 feet of altitude. Seven inches of new snow had fallen the previous two days. The course started with a long climb, a long descent and ended with a couple of smaller climbs. Total vertical: 615 feet. Course map and profile below.
