Thirteen team brave sub-zero temps at 6-Hour Michigan Cup Relays

It was cold, very cold. Forty-minutes before the 10:00am race start time, the temperature on the Northbound Outfitter/Cross Country Ski Shop sign showed -26F! This was certainly going to be one of the colder, if not the coldest, race start in the Michigan Cup Series. But the Hanson Hills 6-Hour Michigan Cup Team Relay was going to start, albeit with a short delay.
We had 13 total teams, the cold keeping the numbers down from years past of 30 plus teams. The race started with a 1 hour delay, with temperature at the race start a frosty -12F degrees. After about 2 hours, we were in positive territory at 6F degrees. The first 2.5 hours of the race used the short Green Trail loop so racers wouldn't get too cold. We changed the course for the last 2.5 hours to the longer Green-to-Blue-to-Easy-Return set of trails.
We had a great group of diehard skiers, great food, and an overall fun time! A big Thanks to my groomers Tommy G. and Jason for making sure the course was top notch, also a big thanks to Northbound Outfitter/Cross Country Ski Shop for providing some great division prizes.
