In a fitting display of team camaraderie and sportsmanship, Cross Country Ski Headquarters exemplifies what our sport is all about. On Sunday for the final race of the season every skier on their team waited at the finish line until the last skier crossed the line. They not only cheered their own team, but they cheered for everyone else as well. After the race they took a team picture and it is only fitting that they also surpassed team Nordic Ski Racer going into the final relay races. It was a tremendous team effort to overcome a 1000 point deficit and lead the team standings after the final individual results.
The final story has yet to be written. It was only a couple of years ago where Nordic Ski Racer shocked the Michigan Cup community by winning the relays in a dramatic and devastating fashion. After that historic event the rules were changed and it will be much harder to overtake the home team on their turf.
More importantly what used to be a turnout of 40 skiers at a relay event has turned into an enthusiastic and competitive festival of celebration for the ending of another great season. Since the relays were moved to CCXH we have drawn almost 150 skiers each of last two years. Bob Frye hosts a great venue and I don’t know of a better way to start the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day with 150 of my best friends.
See you at the relays!
