Unfortunately, the Whit Pine Stampede committee decided this morning to cancel the 50K race scheduled for this Sat., Feb 4. Despite our recent snowfall, the 50K trail was still not good enough in spots to run the full 50.
However, the 20K and 10K trails are in excellent shape, so those two races are on as scheduled. All racers registered for the 50K will now be in the 20K.
It seems an explanation is necessary:
First, nobody feels worse when we have to shorten the race than all those that have been working on this race and the trail for the past year.
Second, remember this is a point to point event involving several road crossings.
Third, there are areas which have an abundance of snow, but, there are are a few crucial, always problem areas, which were hit hard by the elongated January thaw.
Our goal is always to provide the best conditions as possible, the 20KM and 10KM trails will be excellent and should prove to be fun.
Start time for the 20K is 10:30 a.m. and the 10K begins at 11:30. Pre-race meeting will be held 45 minutes prior to start time. The Short’s Cool-Down Party has been moved up to 1 p.m. and the Awards ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.
The entry fee will remain at $85.00, but, WILL NOT INCREASE TO $95.00 on the weekend.
The Short's Brewing/Shanty Creek Party will begin at 1:00 PM rather than the original 1:30 PM start. REMEMBER you will need to be wearing your BLUE wristband to be served food, rather than pay $10:00
