Cote Dame Marie, Hanson Hills Recreation Area, Grayling, MI
Solda recommendation:
Expect machine groomed, old snow that is wet. Select skis with shorter contact zone, some tip splay and a medium grind.
Base: Apply Solda FC27 (LF carbon) . Scrape and brush. If you don’t have FC27 then use Solda HC28. After scraping and brushing, cold crayon a layer of Solda Fluor Plus dice.
Paraffin: Apply a layer of Solda F40 Red Special. Use at least 3 passes of the iron to blend the Fluor Plus Dice. Scraped and brush. Then apply a layer of Solda F40 Yellow Special, scrape and brush. These two could be mixed 50/50, but remember that more layers is better than fewer layers.
Powder: Solda Fluor 100. You cold go with the top coat below and not burn powder. The powder will give a somewhat more durable surface that resists dirt.
Top Coat: Cold crayon a layer of Solda Powerjet 1. Then iron it in with a hot iron using a sheet of fiberlene between the iron and the ski base. When cool, brush with a nylon polishing brush. Finish with a polish using a felt pad.
Structure: After waxing you could apply a medium broken linear pattern with one pass of a Swix or Toko structure tool. Remember that a structure that is too deep and aggressive will pick up dirt.
