Opening season for the Michigan Cup this weekend

This weekend marks the start of the official Michigan Cup season. We have two races, both for full Michigan Cup points:

Lakes of the North Winterstart 7km Freestyle

Date: Saturday December 17, 2016

Time: 11:00am

Cost: $15. Free for Vasa Ski Club members. Free for Juniors.

Registration: 9:00am - 10:30am day of race only

Registration form. Filling out ahead of time will speed up the process.

Food: A free luncheon and the opportunity to reunite with our skiing friends from around the state. ($15 for non-racers).

As of Sunday the 11th, over 17 inches of snow cover the ground at Lakes of the North east of Mancelona. Grooming starts Monday the 12th. We suggest all competitors think about bringing a wide basket pole and soft skis as conditions could be soft. We anticipate about 125 persons to attend and this is a great 1st of the year fairly low key event. You can even tour if you so desire - just start near the end of your wave and come party with all Michigan skiers.

There is NO timing. If you want times start your own timer. We are logging placings in all categories for Michigan Cup points.

Time: 11:00am - 11:30am. Racers must start during this window of time.

Cost: $10.00, includes day trail fee. Juniors are free.

Registration: 9:00am - 10:30am day of race only

Food: Chili and Soup available for purchase for lunch.

This race will be for full Michigan Cup race points (originally, it was to be for participation points only, so this is a big change!). Age group categories will be the same as the Michigan Cup categories. There will be no awards for age group, but overall male and female winners will receive a gift certificate.

The Vasa Ski Club and Forbush Corners are so happy that we can offer 1st of the year races at almost free for all entrants. This is our way to kick off the season with some low key but hugely fun events. We are skiing now and it will only get better by race time next weekend.
