RESULTS: Milan Baic and Rebecca Davis blow through the Krazy Klassic

6:00 am. At the park. Snowing. Crevices filling with snow. Temperature below freezing. Time to groom!

By the time racers started to arrive, Adam Haberkorn had tripled-tracked the race course. The wind was blowing hard, so tracks in the open were filled with fresh snow, the space between tracks scoured down to the hard pack. In the woods, the entire trail was covered in new snow. It actually made kick waxing for the NordicSkiRacer.com Krazy Klassic easier since there was fine fresh snow in all the tracks.

Of course, that only mattered if you were diagonal striding or kick-doublepoling. Many of the stronger racers forego kick wax altogether and simply doublepoled the entire course, skiing on the hard pack between tracks in the open, and choosing the faster track in the woods. The course was a shortened version of the 2.4km Frosty Freestyle loop of the previous day. The section near the first hill, were the snow was a bit sparse, was bypassed. At about 2 km and with one less hill, the choice to doublepole was made easier.

Three skiers started every 15 seconds in an interval start. The 8km race was shortened to 6km (three laps) and the 12km event to 10km (five laps) because of the high winds...which turned out not to be as cold as one would have thought.

Cliff Onthank leads Glenn Goodman, and Steve Smiegel Jr into the finish. Rob French (119) heads out for another lap at the Krazy Klassic.

Milan Baic came charging by me a few laps into the race with no one on his tail. Baic took the 10km victory in 33:27 with a wide margin over 2016 Frosty Freestyle winner John O'Hearn (34:22). There was another gap to third-place finisher Steve Smigiel, Jr's time of 35:03.

Gaps separated the top women as well. Rebecca Davis took first in 40:12, followed by Abby Potts (45:03) and Amy Kostrzewa (52:36).

Abby Potts comes through the finish in 2nd place.

In the 6km event, Tay Tantivirun was victor in 26:52, followed by John Rutherford (36:11) and Keenan Cluskey (38:36). Erica Dombro was the top women in 29:15, with Elizabeth Callison (36:50) and Molly Mysliwiec (53:32) taking second and third.
