The REI Frosty Freestyle and NordicSkiRacer.com Krazy Klassic will be the first regular Michigan Cup races of the new season, a season that has seen the cancelation of three races to date because of poor (or no) snow conditions. In fact, the Frosty Freestyle and Krazy Klassic races will run because of the extensive snow making equipment at the race venue, Huron Meadows Metropark. There have been more skiable days this season at Huron Meadows than most of the cross country ski trails in the Northern Lower Peninsula so far this winter because of the snow making.
This will not be the first time that the Frosty and Krazy Klassic have run on man-made snow. Twice before the races have been held on a kilometer-long loop. This year, the loop has been extended to a 2.25 kilometer loop. The new trail will feature an additional man-made hill.
Says Huron Meadows Nordic Director, Adam Haberkorn,
The course will total close to 1.5 miles, with two large areas to pass 3, 4 or even 5 skiers wide. It will also include a new hill with a quick but smooth elevation gain of about 35 feet. There will also be a hill bypass loop that is 250 ft longer and without the "weeeee" on the downhill.
We're expecting another several inches of natural snow before the race.
