A little more than six months ago, we gathered at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center to discuss use of the VASA Pathway by skiers and fat tire bicycle riders. During that meeting, a group of skiers and fat tire bike enthusiast volunteered to work together to form a coalition with the purpose of finding a “solution” prior to this coming winter season to accommodate both uses.
Working cooperatively with the DNR, the coalition has been given the approval to create/build 15k of new trails off the VASA Single Track Trail Head located along Supply Road. Portions of this new trail involve widening of the existing Single Track, while other portions are newly developed trail.
Beyond working with the DNR to establish this new trail, the coalition has fundraised for the acquisition of grooming equipment and began developing a list of grooming volunteers. The coalition continues to work with the DNR in respect to fat tire bike events in the planning stages for this upcoming season.
A public meeting to provide details about this new trail/work of the coalition is slated for:

We look forward to sharing the exciting news of the progress made this past six months and the future direction of the partnership.
