Given the weather forecast for above-freezing temperatures and rain, Michigan Tech has ended grooming for the 2013-14 season, bringing the ski season to an end.
Tech logged the first and last grooming of the season, kicking off on November 24 and ending on April 28. That’s a 155-day season, or a little over five months. Another way to look at it, we had groomed trails for skiing during 42 percent of the year.
Hats off to all of the groomers, from Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor on the north, to the guys at Swedetown and Maasto Hiitho, to Michigan Tech and Chassell. It’s been a great run. Time to tune up the bikes and plan for the 2015 U.S. Nordic skiing championships in January!
The Tech Trails in January. Soon after the photo was taken, the drifting got so bad, the groomers rerouted.
