These are the final overall Michigan Cup Cross Country Ski Racing Series results which now includes the Juniors. With the Muffin Race run after the relays we had to wait until the last Junior race before we could score the juniors:
Lipp and Durand, 2014 Junior Champions
It was a tight race for the Junior Women. Erin Lipp and Sarah Goble (Team NordicSkiRacer) both finished the season with 992 points - a tie. Both won four races: The Frosty Freestyle, the Krazy Klassic, the Gran Traverse, and the Boyne Grinder Freestyle for Lipp and WinterStart, the Wintersonnewende, the Vasa, and the High School Championship Classic for Goble. But in head-to-head competition, Lipp beat Goble three times while Goble only beat Lipp twice. The result: Erin Lipp is the 2014 Michigan Cup Champion for the Junior Women.
Ian Durand, Sean Brownell, and Clay Darling, all from the Vasa Ski Club, finished 1-2-3 for the Junior Boys, with 976, 970, and 928 points. Durand won the final race of the season, the Muffin Race, to consolidate his lead as Junior Men's Champion.
Change in Senior Standings
The other major change in the final Senior results is Ryan Darnton moved in the 3rd place 30-39 Division D place. His scores were listed in a couple of places in the wrong division. Congratulations to Ryan.
Freestyle Champion
The best four cross country ski freestyle races saw Kaitlyn Patterson win in this event as well as the overall Women's title. The men’s winner went to Alex Vanias, also the overall winner. Only senior men and women are scored on the specialized categories.
Classic Champion
The "best three classic races" title went to Rebecca Davis who finished 2nd in the overall standings. Dan Yankus won in a tight race for the men, just beating out Ryan Harris.
Combined Champion
The sum of each skier's best marathon, freestyle and classic race make up this division. The races highlighted in color represent the ski discipline. Vasa 50k, White Pine 50k and Noquemanon50k are qualifiers for marathon. For those who did the 50k classic at the Vasa or White Pine, your times are mixed with freestyle times. For the Noquemanon, both the 50k classic and freestyle were scored but the classic counted for more points. See the 2014 Michigan Cup Race Calendar for scoring rules.
Rebecca Davis was on winner in this event as well. In the men’s races Alex Vanias won a 3 way tie with Dan Yankus and Milan Baic, based on head to head competition.
