SAPPORO, Japan (March 2) - Petter Northug staged a breakaway in the
final half-kilometer Friday and lifted Norway to its fourth straight
men's 4x10K mixed technique relay title at the 2007 FIS Nordic World
Ski Championships. Russia took the silver medal with Sweden finishing
third. No U.S. team competed.
The three medalist nations
controlled the action from the end of the second leg, the final classic
technique leg, and were 20 seconds ahead going into the two freestyle
technique legs. One second apart heading into the final 10 kilometers,
Northug took Norway home in 1:30:49.2 with Russia second in 1:30.52.4
and Sweden earning bronze with a time of 1:30.52.7
The U.S. Ski Team opted not to enter a team as the men prepare for the final race, Sunday's 50K CL.
