Dear Nordic Ski Racers:
I am a high school junior at Traverse City Central High School in the Great Lakes District of the Central Cross Country Ski Region where I have the good fortune to be coached by John Kostrzewa, Eric Okerstrom, and Nick Baic. Additionally, the encouragement and bits of wisdom that are shared by several adult racers and retired coaches and skiers in the Traverse City area are invaluable.
I am currently supporting the National Nordic Foundation’s Drive for 25 fundraiser (to find out more visit: https://www.grouprev.com/nnfdrivexc) or my webpage http://grouprev.com/erinlipp). By November 15, 2013, the National Nordic Foundation is trying to meet its fundraising goal of $150,000 to support Nordic skiers in the US. My webpage shares a bit more information about the many people I have to thank for my Nordic Ski experiences. I hope you might have a moment to look at it.
During the 2012/13 season, nearly all of my ski races were Michigan Cup races and, other than the Michigan High School Championships, principally against my teammates, with boys and girls racing together in most races. At our state championships, I finished 3rd in the pursuit race, and 4th in skate sprint after tripping myself up when I took the lead 75 meters before the finish.
The 2013 TD Bank J2 New England Championship provided more competitors and closer competition than most of the rest of my season. I finished 13th in the skate 5k, 3rd in the classic 5k, 2nd in the skate sprints, and was on the 3rd place mixed medley relay team with the classic leg. Overall I tied for 3rd place. I thoroughly enjoyed racing in New Hampshire at the J2 Championships.
Thank you to Nordicskiracer.com for posting Michigan junior results throughout the season!
Based upon my Nordic ski performances in 2012-13, I was invited to attend the 2013 J2 National camp in Marquette, Michigan with the top 27 14-15 year old girls and 25 14-15 year old boys around the US and some fantastic coaches, including Bryan Fish, National Development coach and Sten Fjeldheim, head coach NMU. I fared well in J2 Camp competition with a 6th place ranking for the girls’ strength testing and a number one score for box jumps. More importantly, I had the opportunity to train with people who were similarly focused on competitive Nordic Ski racing.
Would you please consider supporting the National Nordic Foundation’s Drive for 25 fundraiser before the November 15, 2013 NNF Drive for 25 deadline, on my behalf? I would really appreciate it!
