Yankus and Carlson win "The Beast": Black Mountain Skate

It was time for Brenda Carlson and Dan Yankus to shine at the inaugural Black Mountain Skate cross country ski race. Carlson edge yesterday's Black Mountain Classic winner 41:09 to 41:48, with Abby Johnson coming in third in 48:56.

Daniel Yankus added another win to his season by beating Ryan Harris to the line, 32:07 to 32:18. Cliff Onthank - who looks fully recovered from this summer's injuries - was third in 34:30.

While Saturday's Black Mountain Classic was deemed "The Beauty", Sunday's skate race was "The Beast", according to Michael Bourassa. Michael Seaman described the course as "11k-ish uber hilly, with steep ups, and very fast wide open descents. I lost a spot or two when I crested a roller with enough speed that I wound up back on my heels 'rolling up the windows'."
