Soo Finnish Hosts Mabel Lake Tour

Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is hosting its annual Mabel Lake Tour on February 25. 

This tour is a non-competitive, family-oriented event which consists of 19 km of meticulously groomed (classic only) back-country wilderness trails.  The tour begins on the Hiawatha Highlands’ Crystal trail, and after 2.5 km it heads back country through forests, alongside rivers, and eventually to Mabel Lake where things generally go downhill and an impromptu ‘ski flying’ competition is normally held, much to the dismay of the club’s insurance underwriters.
