The Michigan Cup will be giving points to kids 12 and under at designated races this season. Each kid will get 5 points simply for participating in the race. Points will not be given based on how well each child places in a race.
Says top Michigan Cup racer and mother Wendy Anderson, "We need to get younger skiers into the sport. By getting younger kids to participate, we grow the sport." In previous seasons, points were given only for Junior racers, 13 and above. Junior racers receive points based on how well they place in each race.
The points received by kids in this new "Junior Development" division will count toward the Michigan Cup Team competition. A list of races offering Junior Development points will be posted in the race calendar later this year.
