The 2007 North American Vasa Festival of Races will be staged at the Timber Ridge RV & Recreation Resort for the third consecutive year. Timber Ridge owners, Kristin Levesque and Gordon Waggoner, have proven to be very valuable participants with the Vasa Board of Directors as well as gracious hosts. Their beautiful 80 acre property borders the Vasa trail system and is a perfect staging point for all of our races.
The words "new and improved" are often over-used, but in the case of Timber Ridge, are very appropriate. Since last year's race, they have renovated many of their RV sites for water, electricity and sewer. We will have the heated South Bathhouse available for skiers and they have added over 100 parking spaces for special events and RV storage. In addition, 12 cabins have been relocated and winterized for year-round use and positioned around the south bathhouse. They have also added 4km of new trails in the back 40 acres for biking, hiking or skiing. They have purchased a number of new large tents for special events and several will be used this weekend for changing rooms, bag pickup, refreshments and a warming area prior to the races.
Gordon, who is affectionately known as "Hurricane Gordon", does the grooming and keeps the ski trails in top shape for both freestyle and classic skiing all winter. They have plans underway for this year including a new wedding chapel that will seat 80 people and are also rebuilding the pedestrian bridge. A new installation is the four story red steel tower that can be used for a zip line, rock climbing wall and/or a Bungee jump venue.
We are very pleased to be partnered with Timber Ridge RV and Recreation Resort. They have quickly become the geo-center for all Nordic activities in the Traverse City area.
