The Superiorland Cross Country Ski Club’s Junior Noque is scheduled to go off as planned on Friday, January 26th at the new ski loops at the Forestville trailhead near Marquette. This will be the first time the Junior Noque skiers will experience the Noquemanon Trail Network’s new 1 km, 3 km and 5 km loops at Forestville. The event has been held outside the Superior Dome in past years.
According to Junior Noque organizer Debby Muskovitch, the loops are in great shape with lots of new snow. “The loops will bring the skiers around the stadium and that will offer the skiers and spectators a lot of fun for viewing and cheering,” She said.
Muskovitch added, “There will be food and beverages available to participants during the awards ceremony immediately following the race at our heated pole barn. There is plenty of parking available on site as well.”
The youth races, which accompany the Subaru Noquemanon Ski Marathon and mBank Half Noque each year, will be expanded this year to include more options for youth. The full slate of races will include a one kilometer classic loop race for skiers age seven and under, three kilometer races in both classic and freestyle for skiers age 8 to 11, plus a five kilometer freestyle race for skiers age 12 to 19. There will be top three awards as well as age division awards for the races.
Early registration is $7. Online registration and registration forms are available for downloading off of the website www.noquemaon.com. Also, on site registration, for $10, will take place at Forestville from 2:00 until 4 p.m.
The Forestville Ski Loops are located along the Lower Noquemanon Trail in Marquette Township. To get to the venue, take Forestville Road off of Wright Street and follow the blue Noquemanon Trail Network signs to the trailhead.
