Starting in 2004, each October, TART Trails has awarded a local trail advocate with the Jim Mudgett Trail Pioneer Award. The award is in honor of Jim’s reverence of the outdoors and passion to instill that same wonder and respect in others. He had a life-long commitment to fitness and health and helping others. Through his medical practice he helped his patients to live healthy lives and stop illness before it began. Through his work on the trails, he passed that same gift along to thousands of others. Dr. Mudgett, who passed away in 2004, was a founding member of the TART Trails Board of Directors, a trail chief on the Leelanau Trail, and a longtime supporter of the Vasa Pathway.
We are seeking nominations for the ninth annual Jim Mudgett Trail Pioneer Award. Nominations are open to anyone who has advocated for building, maintaining and using trails in the Grand Traverse region. Send submissions in writing by August 31 to TART Trails or via email to [email protected]. Please state the reasons you believe the person should receive this award and offer a few paragraphs that validate your candidate. In addition, please include any biographical information may be relevant and helpful for the selection committee. For more information, call the TART Trails office at (231) 941-4300
