Dear all,
The snow is almost with us, and it is time to start acting on another of those resolutions from last year about being better prepared this season.
To that end, I will be leading a roller-ski group on Sundays 10-12am, starting Sunday 5th, at Kensington Metropark, aimed at anyone who wants to improve their skiing, from near-beginner to near-expert. We will work on agility, confidence and technique, by doing drills and games, with the objective of improving your confidence, speed and enjoyment on snow. You can make huge improvements in your skiing by working on roller-skiing, and this is a good time to do it.
Equipment: roller-skis and poles (rollerblades or skates will do if you do not have roller-skis).
Clothing: this will be fairly low-intensity, so you will want to wear a bit more than you would for a steady ski.
Helmets are mandatory at Kensington; in addition to that you should wear whatever safety equipment will enable you to feel relaxed on roller-skis.
Weather: we will ski if the ground is wet, but not if it is raining more than a very little.
Location: Kensington Metropark, at the big parking lot by Maple Beach. This parking lot is closed in winter, so you will need to park at the boat rental parking lot and ski the short distance along the path to where we are. This parking lot gives us a big expanse of space, varied gradients and no cars.
Please let me know if you are coming ([email protected]), so that I can stay at home in bed if nobody wants to come.
Yours, Hugh
