It was a close contest to the end, but the Vasa Ski Club finished ahead of the Cross Country Ski Headquarters for the overall Michigan Cup Championship. The Michigan Cup Relays sealed the deal - Vasa won most of the categories or finished in second place.
The Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team showed they were getting serious by finishing third, up one place from last year's Michigan Cup season.
It was a close race all the way to the end for the Senior Men. Milan Baic and John O'Hearn (both Vasa Ski Club) finished with the same number of points (996), but in head-to-head match ups, Milan beat John in three of the four races in which they competed against each other, make Milan the overall champion. Jay Woodbeck (Team NordicSkiRacer) was just 6 points behind with 990 points.
The competition was less close for the Senior Women. Rebecca Davis (Hanson Hills / Cross Country Ski Shop) skied away with the championship with 1,000 points. Cross Country Ski Headquarters' Mariah Frye was second with 968 points, and University of Michigan Nordic Ski Club skier Ellen Wiitala finished third with 928 points.
Three Vasa Ski Club skiers took the top three spots among the Junior Women. Mary Lyon topped the standings with 984 points, followed by Kelly Peregrine (968) and Nike Roxbury (896).
Reid Goble the topped the Junior Men standings with 988 points. Jacob Dean and Isaac Coulter tied with the same number of points, but in head-to-head competition, Jacob outscored Isaac. Jacob gets second place with Isaac in third.
