What's there: The 17-mile Leelanau Trail provides a paved off-road connection between Traverse City and Suttons Bay. Running through the last of Leelanau County’s former railroad corridors, the Leelanau Trail features picturesque forests, farms, vineyards, lakes and ponds.
In the winter, the Leelanau Trail is groomed by TART Trails volunteers as conditions permit and includes conditions well-suited for classic and skate skiing, fatbiking and snowshoeing. The trail is groomed from the DeYoung Natural Area to the 4th St trailhead.
To accommodate the high number of walkers and runners who utilize the Leelanau Trail from the Cherry Bend Trailhead throughout the winter months, we will be clearing snow from Cherry Bend to the Leelanau Conservancy’s DeYoung Natural Area. From there, the trail will be groomed 14 miles for cross country skiing all the way to Sutton’s Bay. Please see the map for details and enjoy the winter trail!
