TART Extends Trail

Thu, May  12, 2005 - By Missy Luyk

Hi TART Trails friends,

I wanted to let you know of some very exciting news!

  1. A trail extension (nearly two miles) from Lautner Road to M-72 is currently under construction. This project was designed by the Grand Traverse County Road Commission and is funded by a MDOT Enhancement Grant with the local match from Acme Township, TART Trails, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and Grand Traverse County.

This new section of trail will be complete by the end of June. Please stay off the trail during construction. In the photo below, an Elmer's crew drives posts into the ground to build one of the two trail bridges.

  1. VOLUNTEERS REQUESTED! We are planning on having a trail open house during Memorial Day weekend. On May 28 and May 29 from 10:00am-4:00pm, we will need volunteers to work two-hour shifts at the open house. The open house will be held at the caboose on Carter Road (and the caboose will be open for curious trail users to check out). At the open houses, we will have TART Trails literature and some refreshments.

May 28 from 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-4:00
May 29 from 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-4:00

We need two volunteers per two-hour shift. Please call me at 231-941-4300 to sign-up.

Thank you!
