The 32nd annual junior Muffin Race at the Cross Country Ski Headquarters enjoyed great conditions and many happy (and fast!) skiers. The race featured a Team Sprint Freestyle Relay around the Rolling Hills trail. There were 2 skiers per relay team, each skiing 3 laps (6 laps per team). Laps were around 2km. There were male, female, and mixed teams.
“Retro Raptors” (Robert Tyler, Nate Gorman), “Fraternity of Finlandia” (Jack and Ava Mazurek), and “Wicked Blizzard of Oz” (Bella Reimers, Mae Madion) were the top male, mixed, and female teams.
There was also a “Mini Muffin” freestyle races (ages 12 and under) that started after the main event. Kids age 6 and under raced 0.5 km, ages 7-9 did 1.5km, and ages 10-12 skied 2.5km.
….and an epic snowball fight...
The costumes and team names seem to get better and more outrageous each year. Some of the best costumes were “The Despicable Duo" (Kinsey Hintz, Katie Clark) and “Speedy Chickens” (Owen Much, Tristan Naessans). It’s amazing how fast these skiers can ski while wearing such seemingly cumbersome outfits, a true testament to their commitment and enthusiasm. Watch out Michigan cup skiers, some of these youngsters are wicked fast!
A complete list of team placing's, as well as total time raced by each skier, is below:
Skiers were awarded Michigan Cup points based on the sum of their three lap times.
