Announcing Team NordicSkiRacer Junior Ski Club

Tue, Jan  30, 2018 - By Ricardo Lung

We're starting a Team NordicSkiRacer Junior Ski Club, (ages 9 and up).

Our goal is to give young skiers an opportunity to ski with their peers, advance their skiing skills and have FUN. Skiers of all abilities are welcome (parents of young skiers are more than welcome too).

We had our first Junior Ski a couple weeks ago that included Emma (9), Mateo (10) and Henry (9):

  • Doug Heady initially taught basic dry-land drills on body positioning.
  • We then grabbed our skis and headed to Buck's Run for some fun drills on the snow and a lot of skiing without poles.
  • Emma and Mateo did a 1 lap fun race where Mateo had a 45 sec headstart but he was caught right before the end. It was exciting to watch them race with their game faces on!
  • Doug continued working with Henry since it was his first time skate skiing. He said he prefers skate over classic because it's faster.

It was clear that the kids had a great time skiing with each other.

We hope to hold regular Junior Club Skis. Our next ski is this Sunday 2/4/18, 10am (at the Huron Meadows Metropark ski center). We will have it structured for an hour of fun drills and then a practice race at the end.

Emphasis is on FUN. Doug said he can teach both aspiring classic and skate skiers.

For any questions, please contact Doug Heady, (734) 260-7818 or Ricardo Lung, (313) 805-9253.
