Long time Michigan Cup skier Michael Seaman was killed after being hit by a car while biking Tuesday night. According to the Morning Sun News, Seaman was riding his bike westbound on River Road near Deer Run Drive near the Mt. Pleasant Club in Union Township when a car driving in the same direction hit him. He died after being transferred to MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the driver according to state police. Seaman was 53.

Seaman had been know to race all or nearly all the races on the Michigan Cup circuit, win the title of the racer with the most total points.. In more recent years, Seaman had been spending an increasing amount of time bike racing, sometimes doing both a cross country ski race and a cylcocross race on the same weekend.

The Mid Michigan Cycling Club held a silent ride tonight from Motorless Motion to the scene of the accident and back, according to Lisa Hadden of the Mid Michigan Cycling Club.

Seaman’s family will be planning a memorial service in a few weeks, and donations can be made to the League of Michigan Bicyclists on his behalf.

Michael will be personally missed: He was a valued member of the Michigan Cup cross country ski community.
