Thu, Mar  6, 2014 - By Mike Muha

The final (unofficial) 2014 Michigan Cup individual results (PDF) are out, pending any changes. Where are we today?

Seniors: Clean sweep by Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop

Kaitlyn Patterson (Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop) wrapped up the Senior Women's title with 992 points. Teammates Rebecca Davis and Brenda Carlson made it a podiuim sweep for Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop. Davis finished with 980 points; Carlson with 972 points.

Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop also swept the men's podium. Alex Vanais finished first with 1,000 points, followed by Dan Yankus (996) and Ryan Harris (995).

Juniors

The schedule is unusual this year: the junior Muffin Race is going to be held the weekend after the Michigan Cup Relays. The Muffin Race is a pursuit format: Classic and Freestyle legs. Junior points are too close to call winners. We'll have to wait until after the Muffin Race.

Sean Brownell leads the Junior Boys division with 972 points. Brownell won two races outright. Ian Druand is currently in second with three race wins for 946 porints, followed by Tim Brownell with 922 points. All three race for the Vasa Ski Club.

For the girls, Erin Lipp and Sarah Goble (Team NordicSkiRacer) are still tied for first with 992 points, each with four wins under their belt. Heidi Schwab of the Vasa Ski Club is currently in third with 968 points. If either wins the Muffin Race...

Going into the Relays...

Still, even though Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop have been taking the glory in individual races and has won the Brumbaugh Cup for most powerful senior team, Cross County Ski Headquarters leads in the overal Michigan Cup Team Competition leading in the Relays:

  1. Cross Country Ski Headquarters – 34,162
  2. Hanson Hills – Cross Country Ski Shop – 31,797
  3. VASA – 22,547
  4. Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team – 18,675
  5. Nordic Ski Racer – 17,424
  6. Strait Striders – 13,488

Can Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop put together enough winning relay teams to pull off a victory in the overall Michigan Cup?
