GLD Skiers heading to J2 Champs / Junior Nationals

Many skiers in the Great Lakes Division of CXC Skiing are getting ready to head off to either the TD Bank J2 Championships at the Holdernes School in Plymouth, NH on March 8-10, 2013, or to the 2013 USSA Marriott Junior National Cross Country Ski Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska, presented by ConocoPhillips on March 11-16, 2013.
In Nordic racing, junior age categories are referred to as J6-OJ. Each category involves 2 years, so you can be a first or second year J6, J5, J4, J3, J2, J1 or an OJ. A junior's group is dependent on their age after January 1st. Therefore J3s are 12 and 13, J2s are 14 and 15, J1s are 16 and 17 and OJs (Older Junior) are 18 to 19.
J2 skiers may qualify for both the J2 Championships and for Junior Nationals, but can only attend one of the events. In the Great Lakes Division, all qualifying skiers for both the Championships and Junior Nationals, except one, have chosen to attend the J2 Championships rather than Nationals. The TD Bank J2 Championships is designed as a regional event and shorter in duration and less expensive than Junior Nationals.
Only 4 girls and 4 boys from each division are allowed to attend the J2 Championships; skiers who qualified but had higher (worse) points than the top 4 are alternatives.
For the older OJ and J1 categories, Junior Nationals is it. Qualifying skiers all get to go to Nationals, either as part of the Great Lakes Division Team or some other team (e.g., some of the college athletes may be skiing for their home town club rather than their school, or could be skipping Junior Nationals because they qualified for World Nationals).
The top two classic and top two freestyle races are used to determine a skier's qualifying points. In the Great Lakes Division, thirteen qualifying races were held. Skiers could also qualify by racing in Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) races.
The Great Lakes Division Points List (PDF) shows points for all GLD skiers. The table below is the subset of those who have qualified for the J2 Championships and/or Junior Nationals.
