20 projects receive American Birkebeiner Young Skier Grants

Twenty youth cross country ski programs will get a boost this winter thanks to funding from the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF). The Foundation recently awarded $15,000 to programs around the country targeted to youth skiers.

Christopher McLaughlin, who uses the SkiErg at home for fitness, set a new men’s new world-record time of 3:01.9, while CXC Team Vertical Limit member Jennie Bender won the women’s event in 3:51.6.

Light snow is falling outside and the weatherman is calling for more. There are less than seven days to go and almost all of them have a snowflake in the forecast. The Rendezvous Ski Trails were rolled this morning and we are skiing in town.

State Forest Pathways will not be maintained by DNR this winter

I just heard back from our Traverse City Field Office. Our State Forest Pathways will not be cleared of downed trees, the parking lots will not be plowed, and the trails will not be groomed this winter, due to statewide budget cuts.

We are now in the middle of training phase and have not reduced the training loads. We’re going to carry out 3-4 hour sessions twice a day. So the race in Friday was sort of a test competition after 700 km in 10 days.
