Amazingly, we stumbled upon a zillion photos that did not make it to the web after the 2011 Frosty Freestyle. Worse, a photo galleries that was online last year didn't have the correct links pointing to it!
The event entertained 30 teams of 3 per team. Hansen Hills had trails well groomed, was a blast, fast. The nordicskiracers placed and earned metals as well as other teams...
One skier called it "a fast and somewhat scary 10k race at Boyne Highlands" but at least there was snow! The race was originally set to be classic, but there was not enough snow to set a track.
Snow confiditions may force a relocation of the race. Fortunately, it would be nearby.
Hanson Hills managed to put on a fun 6 hour relay Saturday, despite somewhat marginal snow in spots. Fortunately, the recent storm allowed the race to run, the first since the Nordic Fest sprint race on October 22, 2011.
Hanson Hills 6 Hour Team Event is ready to race this Saturday; the Boyne Highlands Classic on Sunday may turn into a skate event.
The new date for the WinterSonnenwende fits nicely with the Michigan Cup schedule for a number of reasons. The only negative is that it won't count as a Junior Race as it conflicts with the Michigan High School Championships.
WinterSonnenwende is moving from this weekend (Dec 17) to February 18th, 2012 because of lack of snow.
With the impending weather forecast of minimal snow, the viability of pulling off the WinterSonnenwende next weekend (December 17) decreases daily. I am hopeful, but also realistic.
The event will feature men’s & women’s 17 km Freestyle, which is a Michigan Cup points race. There is also a 7.5 km Classic race open to everyone, and a kids race.

If you raced in the Nordic Fest Season Opener and are a member of a Michigan Cup team, you are now in first place in the individual standings. The VASA Ski Club leads the team standings.
