Forty-five kids arrived at Huron Meadows at 8:00am, got their skis, and headed out to the start line to race in the first ever Frosty Freestyle Kids Race. Frosty the Snowman was their to cheer them on!

It WAS Krazy! Who holds a classic cross country ski race without set tracks? We do! Dan Yankus (Team NordicSkiRacer) added a second victory this weekend, and Tracy Hardin (Straits Striders) was the women's champion.

Team NordicSkiRacer's Lindsey MacDonald wins the 5k Frosty Freestyle cross country ski race, leading the entire race. Brothers Nikolaas and Vincent Vermeulen finish 1-2 in the men's 5k.

It was a hard race over a relatively flat course, with no place to rest and no place to hide. Conditions ranged from a foot of hard packed snow to icy-snow barely covering the grass. But the competition was spectacular.

No tracks were set, but that didn't hold any racers back. Many racers did more doublepoling than they'd ever done before, seeing what their upper body was made of.

Response was overwhelming for our first time effort - 45 kids signed up! We had to really scramble to get enough instructors to make sure the kids had fun and learned.

The narrow 100 meter course was tricky. There were tight fast corners, undulations, and, if you weren't centered in the lane, grass just off the edge ready to catch a ski tip. But it was snow, in October!

Rain threatened, but it stayed dry for the Team NordicSkiRacer Tuesday night Intensity Session. Typically, we alternate rollerski and ski walking interval sessions. This Tuesday we did a 2 mile running time trial instead.
